Training For Carers/Parents falls under the "Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living" budget of an NDIS plan.
NDIS code 15_038_0117_1_3 - Training for carers in matters related to caring for a person with disability.
If your child/young adult’s plan is:
you can use your child's NDIS plan for disability-specific parent training.
Plan Managed: Your plan manager can claim up to the maximum price in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits for each NDIS support. In this circumstance you will need to privately fund the difference.
Self-managed: You can choose how much to pay for each NDIS support and this can be more than the maximum price in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits.
Many plans don't acknowledge the critical importance of parent/carer training to support participants. Building the capacity of parents and carers with specific disability-centred skills is a fundamental part of ensuring participants have the day to day supports they need. It is essential that you advocate for Parent/Carer Training during the planning or review stages of your child’s NDIS plan process.
If you don’t have Training For Carers/Parents under "Capacity Building – Improved Daily Living" in your child’s plan may wish to consider seeking a Plan Variation which the NDIS consider a ‘Light touch’ plan review https://www.ndis.gov.au/participants/changing-your-plan.
Always seek advice from your Local Area Coordinator or Plan Manager.
If you are coming up for a NDIS plan review or are a newly applying for the NDIS you will come under the new system of stated supports and you'll need to specifically ask for parent training to be included in your child's plan as a stated support.
